Last year, during my speech to the Howard County Chamber of Commerce, I opened with a challenge that felt deeply personal. Before diving into my presentation, I asked the business leaders in the room to reflect on a question that many of us avoid: Who is missing from your network?

In a time of profound political and social shifts, the dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and the challenges to affirmative action have left many questioning how to navigate opportunities in an increasingly inequitable landscape. Now more than ever, understanding the science of social networks and the intentional building of social capital is essential.
