Your family may be richer in social capital than you think.
You don't have to be wealthy. You don't have to know a CEO.
A parent who has worked at the same company for 15 years may know people throughout that organization.
A grandparent may belong to a church, association, union, neighborhood organization, or professional community.
An aunt, uncle, neighbor, coach, teacher, former supervisor, family friend, or program staff member may be one connection away from someone working in your child's area of interest.
The problem isn't always that the connections aren't there. Sometimes nobody has ever taught the family how to recognize them.
That's where we start.
First, we find out where your child stands.
Before we start telling your child to “network,” we want to understand their current network. Through our Centrality Assessment, your family will begin examining your child's connections to the people, organizations, institutions, and industries related to their interests and future.
This is not a judgment of your family. It's a map.
And once we can see the map, we can start determining where your child needs to go next.
We look beyond simply “Who do you know?” We begin examining:
- Who knows your child?
- How strong are those connections?
- How close are they to the opportunities your child wants?
- What can your family already reach?
- And where are the gaps?
Then we look at the family.
This is where things can get interesting. Your child may know very little about the professional and community connections surrounding the adults in their own family. So we'll help you look.
We're not asking parents to hand their children opportunities. We're teaching families how to identify access — and helping young people learn how to build authentic connections for themselves.

Next, we identify what's missing.
Having a large network doesn't necessarily mean having the right network. Your child could know hundreds of people and still be socially distant from the career or opportunity they want.
That's why we help families identify gaps. Once you know what's missing, your family can stop networking randomly and start building connections with purpose.

Over six months, parents and young people complete practical Social Capital Smart activities designed to help them:

We introduce your family to the process, establish goals, and identify what you want the months ahead to accomplish.

Begin measuring your child's current proximity and access to the people and organizations connected to their future interests.

Explore the direct and indirect connections surrounding your child — including connections they may not know exist.
Social Opportunity Fields Analysis
Identify the individuals, institutions, organizations, and environments where important connections and opportunities may exist.
Action & Skill Development
Your child develops practical skills for building, strengthening, maintaining, and activating authentic connections.
Monthly Coaching
Every month you, your child, or both meet with a live Social Capital Smart Coach for guidance, accountability, problem-solving, and your next moves.
